  • Audio Production Workshop: with Michael Flanagan

  • This one-hour workshop introduces the essential equipment and techniques used to record clear, professional sound for film, including C-stands, booms, boom microphones, lavalier microphones, cameras, and tripods. Through demonstrations and hands-on practice, participants will learn proper microphone placement, audio-level monitoring, and strategies for avoiding common recording problems. The workshop concludes with an overview of synchronizing, editing, and improving recorded audio using Adobe Premiere Pro.

    For over a century, films have captivated audiences, providing solace during our most challenging times and offering an escape from the chaos of daily life. Yet, the purpose of filmmaking extends beyond mere entertainment; like all enduring art, it should serve as a powerful tool to confront societal issues and inspire audiences to take action.
    In this lecture, award-winning filmmaker and social activist Ya’Ke Smith will guide us through his filmography, revealing the social, political, and historical contexts that inform his work. He will interrogate the artist’s role in times of social upheaval, urging us to reevaluate our creative frameworks and consider how we can contribute to meaningful change through our art.
